Frequently Asked Questions for Prospective Volunteers
I don't have a large office or team; can I still volunteer on my own?
Yes! For professionals looking to volunteer as an individual, being a Guest Speaker, a Mock Interviewer, or a Create-A-Company Judge are great options. These activities emphasize the variety of work experiences available in the job market. We aim to showcase diverse personal and professional backgrounds in all our sessions.
Do I need to be a senior-level professional or need to have any managerial experience to volunteer?
No! We welcome all professional levels and roles to our events. All career path experiences are valuable to our programming as they encourage students to broaden their workforce knowledge and expectations.
No. Our program coordinators lead all student workshops and will manage all Zoom platform logistics, including Breakout Room functions if the event requires the feature. Volunteers can expect a meeting invite with all connection details to be sent ahead of the event by a member from Futures and Options.
Why are activities usually held on weekdays, during work hours?
Our workshops are organized with our students' class schedules in mind. As most of our students are high-school-aged, we offer development opportunities during afterschool hours with consideration of your work schedule. If you are interested in hosting or participating in an activity outside of our regular schedule, please reach out to mrodriguez@futuresandoptions.org.
No. Create-A-Company sessions are exclusive to our Career Essentials programming. This activity serves as a capstone assignment to our workshop students. At this event, students gather their new workplace knowledge and professional skills to present a mock business pitch to professionals at the end of the semester. If you have questions regarding the next available Create-A-Company session, please reach out to mrodriguez@futuresandoptions.org.
Is there a fee to participate?
For pre-scheduled volunteer activities, there is no fee required to participate. If you would like to develop a unique opportunity to engage with our student network and you have a budget or grant considerations, please reach out to Program Coordinator Maritza Rodriguez, or call her at 212-601-0002.
