Adult Training Program in Psychoanalysis & Comprehensive Psychotherapy

NIP's Adult Training Program in Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy is a four-year program that integrates didactic, supervisory, and clinical components with an intensive psychoanalytic experience. Candidates receive a solid grounding in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and upon, completion of the program, are prepared to encounter, evaluate, and assimilate new developments in the broader field of psychotherapy.

The core of the program encompasses a thorough training, both didactic and clinical,  in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy. NIP offers intensive comparative study of psychoanalytic theory and technique with an emphasis on recent advances in relational theory, including object relations theory, self psychology, and interpersonal psychoanalysis. The curriculum traces the evolution of theoretical ideas from Freud and ego psychology to contemporary psychoanalytic through. Third and fourth year candidates may elect to study additional theoretical topics, including those that are not strictly psychoanalytic, which supplement traditional psychoanalytic skills.
