This workshop will highlight sex therapy as both an independent treatment modality, and one which is linked to many others. I will discuss the benefits of incorporating sex therapy into a larger treatment plan, one involving a bio-psycho-social model. I will initially focus on the taking of a sexual history and highlight the therapist's own comfort level in doing so. I will then move into a description of treatment for both male and female disorders, specifically erectile dysfunction and anorgasmia. The therapy model will incorporate both functional and emotional components, e.g., a description of specific physical exercises for ED coupled with attention to the emotional anxiety men feel about this phenomenon. Adherence and resistance to treatment will be cited. Working with individuals or couples is another important consideration to take into account as a treatment plan is formulated.

Learning Objectives:

1) Discuss the basics of a detailed sexual intake including therapist bias
2) Examine a bio-psycho-social model of sex therapy with men
3) Examine a bio-psycho-social model of sex therapy with women

*This workshop is part of a 2-part series. While we encourage you to attend both workshops, each can be attended on their own.
